How to migrate the Messaging Gateway Control Center to new hardware / VM

Issue/Introduction

This document describes the process by which a Messaging Gateway (SMG) control center may be migrated to updated hardware or from hardware to VM or to infrastructure in a new DMZ or network.

Resolution

Preparation

1. Download the ISO for the current operating version of SMG from the support portal
2. Install the SMG software on the new control center host
3. Bootstrap the new control center host with the new network configuration. (Note: The role selected for the new control center must match the role of the old control center i.e. stand alone control center or control center plus scanner)
4. Complete the licensing and setup wizard on the new control center

Migration

Control Center configuration and data

1. Perform a full backup of the old control center and store that backup either on the desktop or an FTP or SCP server accessible from the new control center host.
2. Shut down the old control center appliance
3. Restore the backup from the old control center to the new control center. Network configuration and password information for the admin account will not be overwritten on the new control center host but all other data will be restored.

Scanners

While the new control center will have the needed configuration to connect to and manage any existing scanners, the scanners will need to be configured to trust the new control center host. For each scanner, perform the following:

1. Log into the scanner command line interface as admin
2. Use the agent-config command to add the new control center IP to the trust lis
   agent-config --add [new IP]
3. Use the agent-config command to remove the old control center IP from the trust list
   agent-config --del [old control center IP]

Additional Information

If the control center also has the scanner components installed:

Messaging Gateway message audit logs are not included in a Full Backup

Some settings will not be overwritten by restoring the backup from the original control center:
