Issue/Introduction

Getting error "Unexpected Server error" or "Failed to connect to Server" while logging in to the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM).

Unexpected Server Error or Failed to connect to Server while logging in to the SEPM

Environment

14.x

Resolution

Please try to check whether all the Symantec Services are started in services.msc

If the manager service is not started, please check whether C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\etc\conf.properties is empty.

If the file is empty please add the below entries.  You will need to know your server ID, which can be found in the most recent recovery file (C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Server Private Key Backup\recovery_timestamp.zip\settings.properties) and the specific version of the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager in-use.  You can find this in the "Version" column for the entry for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager in Programs and Features in the Windows Control Panel.

  1. scm.db.datasource=jdbc/metadatabase
  2. scm.agent.root=C\:\\Program Files (x86)\\Symantec\\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\\data  (modify the drive as installed)
  3. scm.liveupdateclient.path=C\:\\Program Files (x86)\\Symantec\\LiveUpdate
  4. scm.server.id=<your server ID>
  5. scm.server.version=<your SEPM version, in the format 14.2.1031.0100>

Please run the Management Server Configuration Wizard, then attempt a login to the manager.
