Issue/Introduction

Prior to the Messaging Gateway 10.7 release, password protected PDF files were not distinguished from unprotected PDF files in the same way password protected ZIP archives and office files were treated differently from unprotected zip and office files.

Cause

The True File Typing engine did not check PDF documents for password protection.

Resolution

Messaging Gateway 10.7.3 treats password protected PDF documents as encrypted and will return an unscannable verdict. A future release of SMG will treat password protected PDF documents as password protected rather than encrypted, please see TECH256802 for details.
