Error when updating definitions using Intelligent Updater package on Protection Engine version 7.9.2.12 included with Symantec Protection For Sharepoint Servers.

Issue/Introduction

 

When attempting to update definitions using the Intelligent Updater (IU) package on Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) 7.9.2.12 included with Symantec Protection For Sharepoint Servers (SPSS) 6.0.9 and later an error occurs which prevents the update.

 

The following error message is returned:

          

 

Cause

 

We have identified a problem with the SSEAuth.dll library used to validate Intelligent Updater packages.

Resolution

 

To resolve this issue please do the following:

1. Download and extract the content in the attached hotfix (SPE-7.9.2-HF-04.zip).
2. Stop the Symantec Protection Engine service (symcscan).
3. Backup the file SSEAuth.dll located at SPE installation directory <Drive>\<Install Path>\Symantec\Scan Engine
4. Replace the SSEAuth.dll with the one provided in the HF.
5. Start the Symantec Protection Engine service (symcscan).
6. Update definitions using the latest Intelligent Updater package for the product.
