Issue/Introduction

Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client notifications, triggered by Intrusion Prevention events for example, do not display on macOS 10.15.

Environment

macOS 10.15
Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.2 RU2

Cause

The first time SEP triggers a notification for a particular component (i.e. AV, IPS, etc.) the OS will prompt the user with the choice to "Allow" or "Don't Allow" notifications. If the end-user chose "Don't Allow" when the operating system notified them, then all further notifications from SEP will not be displayed.

Resolution

In order to restore notifications for Symantec Endpoint Protection, the following steps should be applied:

  1. Launch 'System Preferences'
  2. Click on 'Notifications'
  3. Find and click on 'Symantec' within the applications list
  4. Toggle the 'Allow Notifications from Symantec' to the On position
