Endpoint Threat Defense for Active Directory

Issue/Introduction

The Symantec Endpoint Threat Defense for Active Directory (SETDAD) services fails to start up automatically after installing Jcore 3.4.0.102 on a Windows Server 2019.  After the service fails to start up automatically, it can be manaually started.

The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Cause

Slow system startup.

Resolution

The service timeout value can be adjusted to accomodate a slow system startup.

  1. Open regedit.exe, navigate to KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control.
  2. Add new DWORD "ServicesPipeTimeout".
  3. Right-click on the newly created DWORD ServicesPipeTimeout registry entry and then click Modify.
  4. In Edit DWORD Value, then change it to 60000 (30000 is the default, 30 seconds)
  5. Restart the server.
