Issue/Introduction

A user may wish to increase performance by lowering the levels of compression scanned within a compressed file.

A user may wish to increase security by increasing the levels of compression scanned within a compressed file.

Resolution

1. Within the SEPM, navigate to Policies

2. Select Virus and Spyware Protection and edit the policy you wish to apply

3. Select Administrator-Defined Scans and navigate to Advanced Scanning Options

4. Under the Compressed Files tab, it is possible to alter the number of levels to scan from 1 to 10 levels deep of compressed files within a compressed file for threats.

NOTE: While performance increases may be negligible by decreasing scanning within compressed files from the default value of 3, increasing past 3 may lead to degraded performance. Please test performance within your specific environment before moving to production
