Issue/Introduction

The customer is trying to re-configure ITMS and the Symantec Installation Manager (SIM) is giving warnings while trying to find the proper config file references:

Symantec.Installation.PerformInstall.AddConfigInfoToList: Config file path was set to (C:\PROGRA~1\Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\CMDBDocumentation\Config\CMDBDocumentation.config) but there was no associated file at that location. Skipping running configuration for this config.

After SIM finishes re-configuring, it actually still sees the installed products as installed but not configured:

Cause

We found that under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AIM", the "InstallDir" had the wrong path of C:\Program Files\Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\Symantec Installation Manager\ and it should be C:\Program Files\Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\.

We also found it was referring to the wrong config file location of C:\Program Files\Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\CMDBDocumentation\Config\CMDBDocumentation.config and it should be C:\Program Files\Altiris\CMDBDocumentation\Config\CMDBDocumentation.config.

And last, we also found that under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AIM", the "PlatformInstallDir" had the wrong path of C:\Program Files\Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\ and this should be C:\Program Files\Altiris\.

Resolution

Remove the incorrect path references under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AIM", "InstallDir" and "PlatformInstallDir".

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AIM\Configuration\NsConfiguration\InstallPath
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AIM\Configuration\ProductListings\Destination
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AIM\Licensing\LocalRepository
