Computers using HTTPS to connect to the Symantec Management Platform when HTTP is configured

Issue/Introduction

Computers are using the HTTPS protocol to try and connect to the SMP server when the configuration profile only allows HTTP.

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Cause

If HTTPS was turned on initially, and HTTP was then selected and HTTPS unchecked, computers still have the details to connect to HTTPS and will use that by default.

Resolution

To force computers to switch to HTTP, use the following process:

1. Browse in the Symantec Management Console under Settings > All Settings > Agents/Plug-ins > Symantec Management Agent > Settings > and select Targeted Agent Settings.
2. Select the appropriate policy (typically All Desktop computers (excluding 'Site Servers').
3. Check the option: "Specify an alternate communication profile for the Symantec Management Agents to access Notification Server:"
4. Check the link to ensure it is HTTP and not HTTPS.
5. Click Save Changes.

As computers check in, they will get the new policy that forces them to use the HTTP protocol.
