Issue/Introduction

You want to add the ability to manage licenses to other roles. For this example, specifically the librarian security role.

Extending security permissions for Librarian Role to manage Asset licenses (ITMS 8.1 & later)

 

 

Create Custom Role

1. Open NS Console
2. In the Symantec Management Console, on the Settings menu, click Security > Account Management
3. In the left pane, click Account Management > Roles
4. Select ‘Symantec Software Librarian’ role, right click on it and select
5. Enter the name for the new copy of 'Symantec Software Librarian' and click ‘OK’.

 

6. After role is created select it in roles list and go to ‘Privileges’ tab
7. Find the ‘Create Software licenses’ privilege and check it if it is unchecked
8. Press ‘Save changes’ button in the bottom of the page

 

Assigning a Symantec Management Platform user account to a security role

1. In the Symantec Management Console, on the Settings menu, click Security > Account Management.
2. In the left pane, click Account Management > Accounts.
3. On the Accounts page, in the left pane, click the account that you want to configure.
4. In the right pane, on the Member Of tab, make the appropriate settings.
5. Click Add Role.
6. In the Select Role(s) dialog box, select the security role created in previous steps, and then click OK.
7. Click Save Changes

 

 

 

Add missing folders and items in ‘Security Role Manager Console’

1. In the Security Role Manager, in the Role drop-down list, select the created security role
2. Show hidden items by clicking on the “Glasses icon”

 

 

3. Add missing Data classes by clicking on ‘+’ sign. Select all required data classes and press ‘OK’ button.
   • In drop-down list, you can find marked folders, which are contain required Data Classes, to be added.

 

 

Assigning security permissions to folders and items in ‘Security Role Manager Console’

 

1. Add ‘Read’ and ‘Write’ permissions for ‘Resource Management Permissions’. You should select corresponding check-boxes and save changes for each item.

 

 

2. Add ‘Software Image’ Data class

 

3. Add Resource Association In the View drop-down list, select All Items and click ‘+’ sign.

Navigate to ‘Settings\Notification Server\Resource and Data Class Settings\Resource Associations\Contract Association Types’ and select required items as shown below on the screen.

 

 

4. Add ‘Organizational View’ items. Press ‘+’ sign and navigate to ‘Resource Management\Organizational Views\Default’ and add corresponding items

Delete checkbox is responsible for deleting Software Licenses and Software Purchases.

Write checkbox is responsible for editing Software Licenses and Software Purchases.
