Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to 14.2 or later, the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client no longer switches locations unless the client is restarted or smc is restarted.

In the SEP client debug.log, when the client is no longer switching locations, the following entry will be present.

Skip Autolocation in case of Client Controll or Pending Profile.

Cause

Importing a client-server communication file (sylink.xml) will is the trigger which causes clients to stop switching locations normally.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.2 RU2. For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, see Download the latest version of Symantec software here.

Workaround:

Affected clients can be restarted or smc can be restart using 'scm -stop, then smc -start' in the Run window.  This will resolve the issue unless another sylink.xml is imported.
