Issue/Introduction

When Running through a Symantec Management Platform repair through Symantec Installation Manager it fails with the error "the Transaction Log for database 'DB' is full due to 'LOG_BACKUP'".

Configuration Failed

A critical error occurred:

System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> Altiris.NS.Exception.AeXException: The transaction log for the database '_DB' is filled due to 'LOG_BACKUP'.---> System.Data.SqlException:

 

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Cause

Transaction log in SQL are Full.

Resolution

Try one of the four suggestions below to fix this issue:

  1. Under SQL Server Management Studio set the Maximum File Size under options for Altiris database to Unrestricted File Growth.


  2. Increase the Restricted File Growth (MB) size to a larger value creating space for transaction logs to grow.


  3. Shrink the log files from the task. Right-click Search_Service_DB, go to Tasks -> Shrink -> Shrink Files.  Select a File type of Log, then Shrink.


  4. Move the Existing Transaction log files to a different location to work around this.


NOTE: Please make sure you have a fresh and full backup of Database before following the above suggestion. Kindly follow the steps only with assistance of your DBA team.
