Issue/Introduction

Introduction:

Whilst OSIM provides the ability to capture a WIM file from a template machine and create an OS Image using this WIM, some users may wish to use their own WIM file created either manually or by a 3rd party app.

This document describes the process to create such an image.

Environment:

CA Client Automation - All Versions

Instructions: :

In order to create the image you must place the WIM in a folder that also contains the necessary deployment tools.

Depending on the Windows Kit installed, a different set of files need to be copied:

  • Windows Automated Installation Kit (Windows AIK) 2.0 can be used for imagex OS Images up to windows 7

    Files from ...Windows AIK\Tools\x86
    imagex.exe
    intlcfg.exe
    wimgapi.dll

  • Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK) 8.0 can be used for imageX OS Images for Windows 8 and above.

    Files from ...\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Deployment Tools\x86\DISM

    dism.exe
    dismapi.dll
    dismcore.dll
    dismcoreps.dll
    dismprov.dll
    imagex.exe
    logprovider.dll
    Microsoft.Dism.Powershell.dll
    readme.txt
    wimgapi.dll
    wimmount.sys
    wimprovider.dll
    wimserv.exe

When the files are in place the image can be registered either using DSM-Explorer or registerosimage command line.

In DSM-Explorer just register a New OS Image selecting the ImageX related to the OS:

After name the image on the next screen, the source of the image must point to the directory with the wim file and the imagex files:
