Horizontal Scrollbar Missing in Reports Causing Condensed Columns

Issue/Introduction

When viewing certain reports within the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) Console, all data columns appear "squashed" or condensed into the width of the browser window. Users are unable to read the data within the console and are forced to export the report to Excel to view the information properly because the horizontal scrollbar is missing.

Environment

ITMS 8.5 or 8.5 RU1

Cause

This issue occurs because the report viewer is configured to force all columns to fit within the visible area of the web page. While this is helpful for small reports, it becomes problematic for reports with numerous columns or long data strings. By disabling the "Fit columns in page" setting, the console allows columns to retain their natural width, triggering the browser's horizontal scrollbar.

The "Fit columns in page" option is enabled by default in the Report View settings. This setting instructs the console to compress all returned data columns into the current horizontal resolution of the user's browser window, rather than allowing the report table to extend beyond the window's edge.

Resolution

To restore the horizontal scrollbar and view columns at their full width, follow these steps to modify the Report View:

  1. Open the Report: In the SMP Console, navigate to Reports > All Reports and select the report exhibiting the issue.

  2. Enter Edit Mode: Click the Edit button located at the top right of the report viewing pane.

  3. Access View Settings: Click on the Views tab.

  4. Modify the View: Under the Report Views section, click the Edit icon (pencil) for the specific view you wish to change (usually the "Default" view).

  5. Disable Auto-Fit: In the Edit View window, locate and uncheck the checkbox labeled Fit columns in page.

  6. Save Changes: Click OK to close the Edit View window, then click Save Changes at the top of the report page.

  7. Verification: Refresh the report. The columns should now expand to their natural width, and a horizontal scrollbar should appear at the bottom of the grid.
