VIP Error "An administrator with this email address has already been created. Create this administrator again using a different email address"

Issue/Introduction

Attempting to add an administrator to a VIP account fails with the error: "An administrator with this email address has already been created. Create this administrator again using a different email address"

Cause

The email address is already associated with another VIP account. (E.g., The VIP administrator email exists in a production VIP account and the error occurs when attempting to add the same to a VIP test account). The email address acts as the username to determine which VIP account is being accessed. 

Resolution

If using a separate email address or an email alias isn't an option when adding an administrator, append the existing email address with something to identify the VIP account it is associated with. For example, [email protected]/prod for the VIP production account, [email protected]/test for the VIP test account. This will not affect the delivery of password-reset emails.  

Optionally, delete the administrator from the other VIP account if access is no longer needed. (Deleting an administrator will remove access to that VIP account)

If using VIP Enterprise Gateway LDAP synchronization, the mail or email attribute will be synced to the VIP cloud as the administrator username. In cases where an admin sync occurs on multiple VIP accounts from the same LDAP source, the revised email address could be added to users as one of these unused LDAP attributes. Mail could be synced to one account, email to the other. 

Note: Always enter the full username as it appears in VIP Manager when using the forgot my password feature.
