Issue/Introduction

Symantec CSP version 5.2.0 contains the Windows agent which supports the Windows NT systems. Keeping in mind that you may want to access a newer and improved CSP management console and also manage the earlier released Windows NT agents, Symantec has designed the CSP 8.0.0 management server and console.

This article contains the necessary information to deploy the 5.2.0 Windows NT agent, register it with the CSP 8.0.0 management server and manage it from the CSP 8.0.0 management console.

Environment

 Windows NT systems

Resolution

Prerequisite

You must install the CSP 8.0.0 management server and management console respectively. For more information about management server and management console installation, see https://help.symantec.com/cs/SESCSP_HELP/SESCSP/v99597642_v121007334/Installing-the-management-server-and-console?locale=EN_US.

Step 1: Preparing for deploying the Windows NT agent

Download the compressed CSP_5_2_0_Agent_Policies folder which is attached to this article, and extract the following files which support the Windows NT systems:

  • 5.2.0 NT agent installer: agentNT.exe
  • 5.2.0 NT prevention policy pack: SCSPNTPreventionPolicyPack-5.2-2007121401
  • 5.2.0 NT Null policy pack: SCSP_Null_Policy-5.2.0

Step 2: Importing the Windows NT compatible Null policy pack

  1. Log on to the CSP 8.0.0 management console.
  2. Click Policies > Prevention.
In the Workspace Folders section, right-click Workspace and create a new folder for the CSP 5.2.0 policies.
  3. Type an appropriate name for the new workspace folder.
For example, the folder name is NT Policies in the following screenshot.
  4. Click Import.
  5. Navigate to the location where you have extracted the CSP_5_2_0_Agent_Policies compressed folder.
  6. Select 5.2 null policy.zip and click Import.

The imported 5.2.0 NT Null policy is now available in the workspace folder that you have created for the CSP 5.2.0 policies.

Step 3: Installing the Windows NT agent

  1. Navigate to the location where you have extracted the CSP_5_2_0_Agent_Policies compressed folder.
  2. Copy the agentNT.exe file and save it on the system on which you want to install the agent.
  3. Double-click on the agentNT.exe file and run the installation wizard.
For more information about agent installation, see https://help.symantec.com/cs/SESCSP_HELP/SESCSP/v99598102_v121007334/Installing-the-Windows-agent?locale=EN_US.
Note: If the Symantec Critical System Protection Agent installation wizard displays the following screen, select Yes and continue with the installation process.

Step 4: Verifying agent registration to the management server

On the CSP 8.0.0 management console, click Assets > Prevention. The Prevention Assets section lists the agent registered to the management server. The management server applies the Windows NT compatible Null policy on the registered agent.

Step 5: Importing the compatible prevention policy pack

  1. On the CSP 8.0.0 management console:
    1. Click Policies > Prevention.
    2. Click on the workspace folder that you have created for the CSP 5.2.0 policies.
    3. Click Import.
    4. Navigate to the location where you have extracted the CSP_5_2_0_Agent_Policies compressed folder.
    5. Select SCSPNTPreventionPolicyPack_5.2_2007121401.zip and click Import.

Close the Import dialog box. The imported 5.2.0 prevention policy is now available in the workspace folder that you have created for the CSP 5.2.0 policies.
  2. Click Create Default.
  3. In the Create Default Policies dialog box, select NT Prevention Policy Pack V5.2 2007-Dec-14 r1 and click Create.
  4. Edit the policy based on your organizational requirements and apply it on the CSP 5.2.0 agents.
