Cannot choose extract folder when you run the self-extracting Endpoint Protection Manager installer.

Issue/Introduction

You downloaded Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) 14.2 MP1 installer from FileConnect. When you run the self-extracting SEPM 14.2 MP1 installer, the information of the extract folder is not displayed.

Cause

This is expected behavior depends on 14.2 versions.

SEPM 14.2 MP1 (14.2.1023.0100/14.2.1031.0100 and later) installer extracts installer files to TEMP folder, but does not display the information of the extractedfolder. In 14.2.1015.0100, a dialog that you can specify extracted folder is displayed.

Resolution

If you need to check extracted files of SEPM installer, please do the following.,

1. Run self-extracting SEPM installer.
2. Open TEMP foler by explorer (TEMP is environment variables, e.g. C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp)
3. SEPM install wizard automatically starts after extraction completed. When install wizard starts, check the exact extracted folder (e,g. C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS849AA9DF)
4. After check the necessary files, return to install wizard and cancel installation. Extracted folder is automatically deleted.
