macOS systems intermittently experience "Disk Full" states with Endpoint Protection installed

Issue/Introduction

You find that occassionally macOS reports a "Disk Full" state when Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for Mac is installed.  Rebooting the machine clears this state for a variable length of time.

Attempts to write to the hard drive return a message similar to:

No space left on device
