Unable to make software products licensable after installing Asset Management Solution

Asset Management Solution


Error appears when attempting to make a software product licensable. Edit the software product and browse to the Licenses tab, check Licensable Product, and click Save.

A message appears stating "There was a problem saving the software product. Check the Altiris logs for further details."

Could not load file or assembly 'Altiris.Asset.Licensing, Version=8.1.5818.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d516cb311cfb6e4f' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

8.1 RU7


In this scenario, the customer was using SMP 8.1 RU7 but only installed Asset Managment Solution 8.1.

The server was looking for the Asset Management Solution 8.1 RU5 files which could not be found as it had not been installed.


Installing Asset Management Solution 8.1 RU5 through the Symantec Installation Manager which will also indicate that an update is ready to be installed.

  1. Launch Symantec Installation Manager from the Start menu or a shortcut.
  2. Click the Install Updates link.
  3. Find the link for Asset Management Solution RU5 (which is the latest for 8.1).
  4. Choose to upgrade.
