Issue/Introduction

Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for Mac clients are showing inconsistent behavior in the SEP Manager such as showing offline, being in the in the wrong groups, or similar behavior. This tends to be observed after OS updates are applied to the impacted devices.

Environment

MacOS devices running SEP 14.0, up to 14.0 RU1 MP2.

Cause

Symantec development identified an issue where changes to more recent versions of MacOS caused problems to the way Mac devices generated their hardware IDs or make determinations on when to update their hardware ID. In some cases this leads to behavior in which clients generate a new hardware ID, and in some cases devices might end up with the same Hardware ID. This can cause general issues with reporting back to the SEPM.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.2.  For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, see Download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.
