'HTTP Error 500' cannot access a URL through Web Security Services

Issue/Introduction

Accessing a web site produces HTTP Error 500 and cannot access a URL.

HTTP Error 500 - currently unable to handle this request 

Environment

Web Security Service

Cause

There can be many causes for this error.

• The URL views the SSL Root certificate in the chain and doesn't trust the certificate being offered.
• Also can be an issue accessing a database.
• Authentication issue

 

Resolution

Add the URL to the SSL Interception Exemption List which will not pass our certificate of trust.

OR

Use the nslookup command to find the IP addresses that the domain points to and add those to the SSL Interception Exemption List.
