Data Loss Prevention Oracle Standard Edition 2

Issue/Introduction

You get an error while upgrading Oracle from 11g to 12c.

Error: File not found D:\oracle\product\12.2.0.1\db_1\demo\schema\mkplug.sql

File not found D:\oracle\product\12.2.0.1\db_1\demo\schema\mkplug.sql

Cause

Three Possibilities:

  1. Using the wrong response file as stated in our documentation. Make sure you are using the Oracle Standard Edition Upgrade Guide vs. our Oracle Enterprise Edition Upgrade Guide based off whether you are upgrading the Standard or Enterprise version of Oracle.
  2. You may be using the Enterprise response files rather than the Standard edition response files. There are two response files. One from Symantec and one from Oracle. Both of these should be in our 15.x Platform download called "12.2.0.1_64_bit_Installation_Tools.zip"; When unpacking the DLP Platform download file is located under ...\Symantec_DLP_15.5_Platform_Win-IN_15.5.0.17018\DLP\15.5\New_Installs\Oracle_Configuration. Inside this zip file are two response files that are used at different points in our guide to upgrading Oracle 11g to 12c. Please make sure you are using the correct response files as stated in the guide (https://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC10713), one for the Oracle Standard or Enterprise edition.

  3. Downloaded Oracle files were not unzipped properly.

Environment

Upgrading from Oracle 11g to 12c Standard Edition or Installing 12C

Resolution

For 1st and 2nd causes:

Note: in any case, reinstalling Oracle from Scratch is required, and Oracle will override files so no need to delete them. Also, assumption for the installation files path is c:\temp\Oracle

  1. Download the Symantec_DLP_15.5_Platform_Win-IN_15.5.0.17018. zip or Symantec_DLP_15.5_Platform_Lin-IN_15.5.0.17018. zip from the customer support portal https://mysymantec.force.com/customer/s/.

  2. Unpack the Platform zip file and find the 12.2.0.1_64_bit_Installation_Tools.zip  under the ...\Symantec_DLP_15.5_Platform_Win-IN_15.5.0.17018\DLP\15.5\New_Installs\Oracle_Configuration path. Move the file 12.2.0.1_64_bit_Installation_Tools.zip to a C:\temp folder (or any temporary folder) and unzip it. Copy all files to c:\temp\oracle\tools as instructed by our documentation (it can be D:\temp\oracle\tools or any other drive, for instance).

  3. There are two response files that are used at different points in our guide to upgrading Oracle 11g to 12c. Please make sure you are using the correct response files as stated in the guide (https://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC10713). For instance, if installing/upgrading Oracle Standard edition, use the following command:

 c:\temp\>D:\temp\Oracle\database\setup.exe -noconfig -responsefile c:\temp\Oracle\tools\responsefiles\Oracle_12.2.0.1_Standard_Edition_Installation_WIN.rsp

If you are upgrading Oracle Enterprise then the response file will be called "Oracle_12.2.0.1_Enterprise_Edition_Installation_WIN.rsp."

For 3rd Cause

  1. Unpack the response files the same way as previous solution.

  2. Unpack Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_Server_Win64_1of2 in a temporary folder and go all the way to \Downloads\Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_Server_Win64_1of2\DLP\Oracle_12gR2_Win\Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_64bit_Server_Win  and copy the win64_12.2.0.1_database_1of2.zip and paste it in a short path folder such as c:\temp\unpackedOracleFiles\.

  3. Unpack the  win64_12.2.0.1_database_1of2.zip again and use the default path to unzip it this time.  Find the ..\win64_12.2.0.1_database_1of2\database folder and copy all the files (CTRL + A, CTRL+C) and paste them in c:\temp\oracle\database, according to our installation/upgrade guide.

  4. Unpack Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_Server_Win64_2of2 and go all the way to C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_Server_Win64_2of2\DLP\Oracle_12gR2_Win\Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_64bit_Server_Win and copy the win64_12.2.0.1_database_2of2.zip and paste it in a short path folder such as c:\temp\unpackedOracleFiles. Find the ..\win64_12.2.0.1_database_2of2\database\stage\Components and Copy all files (CTRL+A and CTRL+C), Paste them into C:\temp\oracle\database\stage\Components.

Now all Oracle files should be ready for the installation. See attached picture to make sure all files are in the right place before running the setup.exe to install Oracle again.
