Issue/Introduction

You get an error while upgrading Oracle from one major version to another.

Error:

File not found D:\oracle\product\12.2.0.1\db_1\demo\schema\mkplug.sql

Environment

Upgrading from prior Oracle Standard Edition or Installing currently supported release (e.g., 19c)

Cause

Three Possibilities:

  1. Using the wrong response file as stated in our documentation. Make sure you are following appropriate instructions for installing Oracle, based on whether you are using the Standard or Enterprise version of Oracle:

In addition, we do support Oracle in MultiTenant environments, which have additional instructions:

  1. You may be using the Enterprise response files rather than the Standard edition response files. There are two response files. One from Symantec and one from Oracle. Both of these should be in the DLP Platform download called "<OracleVersion>_64_bit_Installation_Tools.zip".
Note: when unpacking the DLP v16.0, for example, the Platform download file is located under \Symantec_DLP_16.0_Platform_Win-IN_16.0.00000.60853\DLP\16.0\New_Installs\Oracle_Configuration.
Inside this zip file are two response files that are used at different points when upgrading Oracle.
Please make sure you are using the correct response files as stated in the Help Center topics:

  2. Downloaded Oracle files were not unzipped properly.

Resolution

For 1st and 2nd causes:

Note: in any case, reinstalling Oracle from Scratch is required, and Oracle will override files so no need to delete them. Also, assumption for the installation files path is c:\temp\Oracle.

  1. Download the latest version of the "Platform" installer, E.g., Symantec_DLP_16.0_Platform_Win-IN_16.0.00000.60853.zip or Symantec_DLP_16.0_Platform_Lin-IN_16.0.00000.60853.zip from the customer support portal.

  2. Unpack the Platform zip file and find the latest version of the Oracle Installation Tools as described above. Move the file <OracleVersion>_64_bit_Installation_Tools.zip to a C:\temp folder (or any temporary folder) and unzip it. Basically, as instructed by Preparing the Windows environment (broadcom.com) or Preparing the Linux environment (broadcom.com).

  3. There are two response files that are used at different points in our guide to upgrading Oracle. Please make sure you are using the correct response files as stated in the links above.
Complete example of the different install parameters for several versions of Oracle can be found at:

For 3rd Cause

  1. Unpack the response files the same way as previous solution.

  2. Unpack Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_Server_Win64_1of2 in a temporary folder and go all the way to \Downloads\Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_Server_Win64_1of2\DLP\Oracle_12gR2_Win\Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_64bit_Server_Win  and copy the win64_12.2.0.1_database_1of2.zip and paste it in a short path folder such as c:\temp\unpackedOracleFiles\.

  3. Unpack the  win64_12.2.0.1_database_1of2.zip again and use the default path to unzip it this time.  Find the ..\win64_12.2.0.1_database_1of2\database folder and copy all the files (CTRL + A, CTRL+C) and paste them in c:\temp\oracle\database, according to our installation/upgrade guide.

  4. Unpack Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_Server_Win64_2of2 and go all the way to C:\Users\Administrator\Downloads\Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_Server_Win64_2of2\DLP\Oracle_12gR2_Win\Oracle_12.2.0.1.0_64bit_Server_Win and copy the win64_12.2.0.1_database_2of2.zip and paste it in a short path folder such as c:\temp\unpackedOracleFiles. Find the ..\win64_12.2.0.1_database_2of2\database\stage\Components and Copy all files (CTRL+A and CTRL+C), Paste them into C:\temp\oracle\database\stage\Components.

Now all Oracle files should be ready for the installation. See attached picture to make sure all files are in the right place before running the setup.exe to install Oracle again.
