On an Encryption Management Server with multiple network interfaces you see an SMTP error in the Mail log. The error can be viewed on the Reporting / Logs page of the administration console when you select Mail as the log. The error occurs when you click the Restart Services button on the System / General Settings page of the administration console.
The Mail log contains errors like this where 10.0.0.10 is the IP address of a network interface running SMTP:
MAIN: Can't start SMTP service on 10.0.0.10:25: Cannot assign requested address
MAIN: Couldn't bind to SMTP port (10.0.0.10:25): Cannot assign requested address
MAIN: Couldn't bind to SMTP port (127.0.0.1:2525): Cannot assign requested address
The network interface is disconnected. If you ssh to the Encryption Management Server you can run this command to confirm, where eth1 is the interface running SMTP:
If the last line of the ethtool command output states the following then the interface is not connected:
Link detected: no
Encryption Management Server 3.3 and above.
Try restarting Encryption Management Server by clicking on the Restart button on the System / General Settings page of the administration console.
