Issue/Introduction

Location does not switch when using Wireless and Ethernet conditions in Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 14.2

Cause

A new API introduced in SEP 14.2 for IPv6 changed the behavior of Location Awareness when querying network adapters that are disconnected or using self-assigned link-local addresses. SEP 12.1 Location Awareness would disregard properties of such network adapters but 14.2 may still see an IP address, gateway, DNS server, etc.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.2 MP1. For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, see Download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Possible work-arounds:

  • Replace Location criteria that use "all of" IP address requirements with "one of"
e.g. "If the client computer has one of the IP addresses listed below".

  • Include Location ping criteria to verify connectivity
