Issue/Introduction

"Required key not available" error when loading SEPFL autoprotect (Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux)

Example error from /var/log/messages or at command line after compiling SEPFL autoprotect:

insmod: ERROR: could not insert module /opt/Symantec/autoprotect/.symevrm-custom-3.10.0-862.el7-x86_64.ko: Required key not available

Environment

Linux

SEPFL

Cause

This is due to UEFI "secure boot" option enabled in the affected computer's BIOS. SEPFL autoprotect modules are not currently compatible with this feature.

Resolution

Disable UEFI secure boot or run SEPFL without autoprotect (using only the manual and scheduled scans).

NOTE: systems may be rendered unbootable by making the wrong changes in BIOS. Symantec does not assist with this. It is the customer's responsibility to safely disable UEFI secure boot, if they so choose.
