Messaging Gateway

Issue/Introduction

Security protocols for internal networks require removal of access over port 443 to the Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG).

or

Internal requirements make it difficult to use https:// addresses to access the graphical user interface (GUI) of the SMG.

Cause

Symantec requires that HTTPS communication to the SMG is always available. HTTP is not a secure protocol, so the communication between the Control Center and your browser is able to be monitored by other parties.

Resolution

There are options for configuration of HTTP and HTTPS access to the GUI.

To disable HTTP access:
From the command line, use the command cc-config http --off

To disable use of port 443 for HTTPS access:
From the command line, use the command cc-config port-443 --off

HTTPS access is always available over port 41443. For more information, please refer to the Command Line Interface Guide for SMG 10.6.5.
