Issue/Introduction

A customized Client Mac Install Settings criteria has been created in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) yet there is no option to select the custom install settings when exporting a Mac Client Install package.

The Remote Push option also does not allow you to select the Mac client install settings that you have created.

Environment

SEPM 14 RU1-MP2 or earlier.

Cause

This is by design.

The main setting that can be set within the Mac Client Install settings section is the Restart method with Custom restart options. Macs requires a forced reboot to start protection, and even to start communicating to SEPM. These restart settings are meant for auto-upgrades only as these clients are already talking to the SEPM and protected. If Symantec allowed the administrator to set a reboot time, then the target Mac could potentially be left out un-protected (and not connected to SEPM) even though Endpoint Protection is installed.

The help page for the export package settings pane explicitly states that Installation settings for Mac computers apply only to AutoUpgrade.

Resolution

This problem is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.2.

For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, read ‘Download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection’
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH103088

In the 14.2 Endpoint protection Manager, a comment has been added to the Mac install settings dialogue to note that the settings are for auto-upgrade only.
