End user login to Messaging Gateway Control Center results in Application Error

When end users attempt to log in to the Messaging Gateway Control Center, the attempt results in an Application Error and the end user cannot log in.

Login attempts result in the following screen, preventing login:

The Control Center BrightmailLog.log file will contain errors similar to:

java.util.regex.PatternSyntaxException: Unclosed counted closure near index 7


While there could be other reasons cause an application error on login, this article is specific to a problematic entry in the Policy Group Members configuration.


To correct this issue, you will need to remove problematic email address(es) from the policy group membership list(s).

  1. Go to the Policy Group list:
    • Administration > Policy Groups
  2. Edit one of the policy groups.
  3. Search the member list for an email address that contains braces surrounding numbers, letters, and possibly other characters, similar to:
    • mailbox{18e7-3-4e-ba-4}@domain.tld
  4. Delete these addresses from the list.
  5. Save the policy group.
  6. Edit another policy group and follow steps 3 - 5 until all policy groups have been checked.
