Issue/Introduction

How can I increase the amount of elements/devices allowed in an on demand report?

You need to increase the default limit for the number of elements or devices allowed in a single on-demand report.

ERROR MESSAGE: When adding more than 15 specific items to an On-Demand report view config we see an error. It states "Selection cannot exceed 15 items. Select only up to 15 items."

SYMPTOMS:

  • Unable to select more than the default number of devices for reports.

  • Selection is capped during on-demand report generation.

CONTEXT: This configuration is managed via the Performance Center debug attributes page.

IMPACT: Users are restricted from running comprehensive reports across large device sets.

Environment

Release: All Supported Releases

Applies to all currently supported Performance Center releases.

Cause

The default selection limit (15) is a safety mechanism to prevent high-resource reporting tasks from impacting portal performance.

Resolution

NOTE: DO NOT RAISE THE LIMIT TOO HIGH! Raising it much beyond the default will lead to system problems and performance problems. The OOTB configuration setting it to 15 to prevent these problems.

PREREQUISITES:

  • Administrative access to the Performance Center portal.

  • Access to the internal debug configuration pages.

STEPS:

  1. ACCESS DEBUG ATTRIBUTES PAGE: Open one of the following URLs in your web browser:

    •

      HTTP: http://[hostname]:8181/pc/center/admin/debug/attrs

    • HTTPS: https://[hostname]:8182/pc/center/admin/debug/attrs

    • EXPECTED: The Debug Attributes configuration page displays.

  2. MODIFY ITEM LIMIT: Locate the following attribute: OnDemand.MaxItemsSelected.Limit

    • Update the value to your required threshold.

    • EXPECTED: New value is entered in the attribute field.

  3. COMMIT CHANGES: Navigate to the top of the page and click the Update button.

    • EXPECTED: Settings are saved successfully.

VERIFY SUCCESS:

  • Launch an on-demand report.

  • Verify you can now select the higher number of devices/elements specified.
