Issue/Introduction

New installations of Messaging Gateway (SMG) 10.6.2 and later are FIPS compliant with respect to local admin account password storage.

Installations of SMG which have been upgraded from versions prior to SMG 10.6.2 require a password change to ensure FIPS compliance of local admin password storage.

Cause

 

Resolution

Changing the local command line admin account password on SMG systems which have been upgraded to version 10.6.2 or greater will automatically use a more secure password storage format. To change the local admin password on SMG

1. Log into the SMG command line interface via ssh as the admin account
2. Run the password command to change the admin password.
