Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Issue/Introduction

After performing an installation of Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) 7.5.6 you are unable to release messages from Quarantine that have the recipient field specified as "Unknown Recipient".  All newly quarantined messages show a typical recipient value and can be released.

When attempting to release messages with "Unknown Recipient" the following error is returned.

Cause

Back-end functionality for the Quarantine feature was changed with the release of SMSMSE 7.5.6.  The resulting changes introduced a new issue.

Resolution

We have created a hotfix to address this issue. Utilize the following steps to apply the hotfix:

  1. Download the file "Hotfix_4113598.zip" attached from the "Download Files" section of this article.
  2. Extract the contents of "Hotfix_4113598.zip" to a temporary location.
  3. Stop SMSMSE services, "Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange" and "Symantec Mail Security Utility Service"
  4. Back up the SAVFMSEShared.dll from SMSMSE install folder ..\SMSMSE\7.5\Server
  5. Copy the SAVFMSEShared.dll from extracted location to install folder ..\SMSMSE\7.5\Server
  6. Start the SMSMSE services.

Once the hotfix is applied all quarantined items previously showing "Unknown Recipient" should now display the original recipient.
