Issue/Introduction

BDC package is taking too much disk space (more than 2GB) and cannot stop replicating it to every Remote Package Server. When tried to edit the package the following error message "Failed to load package" appears and can't save the configurations.

Resolution

BDC package contains bootwiz files necessary for creating a bootable disk as well as Windows ADK 10 files required while client machine boots into the preboot environment. So, it is not recommended to remove the BDC package from Symantec Management Platform (SMP) Server or the Remote site servers.

Follow the below steps to reduce the size of BDC package, however it is not supported by Symantec:

  1. Uninstall the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK) from the Add/Remove Programs (if using Windows 2008 and below) OR Programs and Features (from Windows 2012 and above).
  2. Delete the 'waik_winpe10' folder from "<Install_Dir>:\Program Files\Altiris\Deployment\BDC" directory in the SMP Server.
  3. Open Task Scheduler and run "NS.Package Refresh" and "NS.Package Distribution Point Update Schedule" tasks. This will help to synchronize the BDC package size in the Remote Package Servers.
