Upgrading to Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.1.1 or above may cause a small percentage of systems to fail to boot.  Upon entering the passphrase at the Preboot authentication screen, systems will halt at a blank screen.  When systems are decrypted, the boot partitions may result in a RAW File System and may need data recovery operations to access information on the drive.

This issue was introduced in SEE 11.1.1 and is also present in all subsequent releases including SEE 11.1.2.  This issue can happen with both Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Symantec has released Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.1.3 to address this issue and should be used to upgrade previous versions of Symantec Endpoint Encryption.  To download the latest version of the software, visit FileConnect.

Information about this issue:
*Due to this issue, Symantec removed SEE 11.1.1 and SEE 11.1.2 including all MPs from the fileconnect download site.
*This issue does not occur on systems where SEE 11.1.1 or above was installed fresh (no upgrades involved).
*This issue does not occur on systems upgrading from Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.x to SEE 11.1.1 or above.
*While decrypting a Windows 7 system post upgrade has shown the RAW boot partition, decrypting a Windows 10 system with the WinPE tools has shown greater success with no RAW system partitions.  Data recovery software has been successful in recovering data.
*SEE 11.1.2 HF2 was released to resolve this issue, however, SEE 11.1.3 should now be installed to address this issue.

If this scenario is observed during an upgrade to Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.1.1 or 11.1.2, systems may be decrypted using the WinPE recovery process and data recovery tools can then be used to recover data.
