Launch SGOS management consoles using the Management Console Launcher

Issue/Introduction

You want to launch multiple ProxySG or Advanced Secure Gateway (ASG) management consoles.

Note: This solution applies to deployments running Java 8, 9, and 10; see requirements outlined in Supported Java, operating system, and browser versions for SGOS. For systems running Java 11, see Support for Java 11 on ProxySG and Advanced Secure Gateway appliances. 

Resolution

The Management Console Launcher provides Java Web Start support for running Management Console using alternative deployments where one cannot use the legacy method of accessing the console directly in a browser. The Management Console Launcher is able to launch Management Console of any supported version of SGOS. The Management Console Launcher is attached to this article and is also available for download from SGOS and ASG 6.6.5.1 and later. The Management Console Launcher allows you to manage and launch multiple SGOS or Advanced Secure Gateway proxy Management Console instances from a single interface.  

Method 1: Run Launcher from Symantec site

1. Run the JNLP file (loader.jnlp) attached to this article. The Management Console Launcher opens.
2. Select an appliance in the list and click Launch.
3. When prompted, enter your console username and password. After a few moments, Java Web Start launches the Management Console.

Method 2: Run Launcher locally

1. Download the loader.jar file attached to this article. You can leave it on the local workstation or move it to a local server.
2. Download the JNLP file (loader.jnlp) attached to this article.
3. Edit the JNLP file to reference the location of the loader.jar. (See Management Console Launcher for systems without Internet connectivity for details.)
4. Run the JNLP file. The Management Console Launcher opens.
5. Select an appliance in the list and click Launch.
6. When prompted, enter your console username and password. After a few moments, Java Web Start launches the Management Console.

Troubleshooting

To work around possible Java-related error messages, update Java’s Exception Site List. Perform the following steps, depending on the error message you receive:

Error message	Solution
"Java Application Blocked by Java Security" message when running the Launcher	Add exception for the loader.jar: Protocol, domain, and port for the loader.jar. (If on local server) Add only the protocol and domain. (If on local workstation) Add the local path to the jar file.
"Java Application Blocked by Java Security" message when  launching an appliance from the Launcher device list	Add exception for the Management Console jars (located on the ProxySG appliance): Protocol, domain, and port for the appliance.
SecurityException error(s) in the Java console after launching the JNLP	Add exception for the Management Console jars (located on the ProxySG appliance): Protocol, domain, and port for the appliance.
Error messages or warnings that say the application is blocked or that the code was signed with an untrusted certificate	Depending on the security requirements of your system and the certificates you already have installed on your system, you might need to download and install a new root and intermediate Certificate for the Java Management Console Launcher to work.
