Issue/Introduction

What can cause a Cisco Nexus 1000v switch to incorrectly show as model class workstation server and show up in Virtual Host Manager?

I have modeled a Cisco Nexus 1000v switch in CA Spectrum.  Several days later it shows up in Virtual Host Manager, with the model class incorrectly as a workstation server.  What causes this to happen?

Resolution

This can be caused if the Virtual Machines MAC address is not unique and matches one of the Cisco Nexus 1000V switchports, then Spectrum will reconcile the VM server and switch into the same model.  In this situation, you will need to change the VM´s MAC address to use a unique address, then destroy and remodel the switch and you will no longer have this problem.
