Issue/Introduction

This article describes Unix-level telnet access to the NPM from the CPM.N/A

Cause

To provide information on how to access the NPM from the CPM.

Resolution

To access the NPM

An NPM can only be accessed within the chassis via the primary CPM. Once you are logged into the CPM, you can telnet to the NPM from the Unix shell.

The telnet connection to the NPM is based on the slot number of the NPM. For example, to telnet to an NPM in slot 1, you can use the command:

telnet npm1

Use the exit command to end the telnet session.

Example

CBS# un su
Password:
[[email protected] admin]# telnet npm1
Trying 1.1.1.1...
Connected to npm1.
Escape character is '^]'.

BusyBox v1.2.1 (2010.12.08-00:42+0000) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

/ #
/ # exit
Connection closed by foreign host.
[[email protected] admin]#

Note: Telnet access to the NPM is only used for reporting purposes, i.e. data gathering.
