Issue/Introduction

The operating mode of IBM Proventia NIPS can be changed either with SiteProtector or with Proventia ManagerN/A

Cause

XOS doesn't provide a CLI command to change the operating mode of Proventia sensors running on X-series. The initial operating mode is selected during the installation of the CBI package and can be either Inline Simulation (s) or Inline Protection (p). The default mode is Inline Simulation.

Resolution

To change the mode of operation, you can use SiteProtector (if sensors are registered with SiteProtector) or Proventia Manager. The mode is managed individually for each sensor and should be the same on all members of the vap-group.

Changing sensor mode with Site Protector:

1. Right-click the agent (or asset group) and select Manage Policy. The current view changes to a Policy view.
2. Expand the left-pane tree and click on Agent-Specific Policies.
3. Open Local Tuning Parameters.
3. Select the Advanced Parameters tab.
4. Edit the sensor.mode string value (InlineSimulation or InlineProtection).
5. Save the policy to deploy the change.

Changing sensor mode with Proventia Manager:

1. Navigate to the System menu in the left pane.
2. Select Local Tuning Parameters.
3. Select the Advanced Parameters tab.
4. Edit the sensor.mode string value (InlineSimulation or InlineProtection).
5. Save the change.
