Issue/Introduction

The XOS command vrrp-relinquish-master takes effect only if the given failover-group is master, enabled, and actual-priority is less than 255.
Trying to trigger a VRRP failover fails if current VRRP priority is 255:

CBS# show vrrp
Priority is Actual/Configured

FG-ID  Priority  Status  Preempt  Master Sys ID  Master Priority
20     255/255   Master  off      5              255
(1 row)

CBS# vrrp-relinquish-master FG
                             ^
% Unrecognized command

CBS#

Cause

The command vrrp-relinquish-master is only applicable when the priority is lower than 255. The VRRP priority value 255 implies preemption.

Resolution

To allow vrrp-relinquish-master adjust the configured VRRP priority to a value lower than 255.

The CLI in XOS version 9.6 and newer displays a more descriptive error message that shows all requirements of this command:

CBS# vrrp-relinquish-master FG
                             ^
% Error detected at '^' marker - failover-group must be master, enabled, and actual-priority less than 255
