Issue/Introduction

Getting hard disk serial number from CPM Linux shellBefore replacing failed hard drive it could be advisable to verify a serial number of this hard drive from the command line first.

Cause

To be absolutely sure that a correct hard drive will be replaced it is advisable to get the serial number of the failed hard drive from the Linux shell and compare it with the serial number printed on the sticker.

Resolution

When /dev/sdX hard drive is identified to be faulty and needs to be replaced, running hdparm -i /dev/sdX  command from the Linux shell on CPM returns the serial number of the /dev/sdX device.

Example:
In this case /dev/sdb device  is faulty:

[[email protected] admin]# hdparm -i /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb

 Model=HTE721010G9SA00                         , FwRev=MCZOC10V, SerialNo=      MPDZQ7Y0HSPDZL
...
...
