My Director Management Console cannot load webstart_director.jar.

What does this exception mean: "java.io.IOException: Unable to tunnel through proxy. Proxy returns "HTTP/1.0 403 Forbidden""

Resolution

Problem

This issue applies to the Director Management Console v5.4.2 or later only. It does not apply to earlier Director Management Console versions.

When you attempt to start the Director Management Console, the following error displays in your Web browser:

Unable to launch the application

Suggested Workaround

The error indicates a problem traversing a proxy server to get Java settings that are available on a network resource. To work around the issue, update the computer's Java settings accordingly as follows:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Java application.
  3. In the Java Control Panel dialog box, click the General tab.
  4. On the General tab page, click Network Settings.
  5. In the Network Settings dialog box, enter the appropriate information. Consult a network administrator for more information.
