The Edge SWG (ProxySG) may report the following in the event log:
2009-06-29 02:16:15-00:00UTC "TCP acceptance regulation: memory pressure is on" 0 30204:1 ../main/event_logger.cpp:36
In addition, the Edge SWG (ProxySG) may report memory pressure percentage greater than 70% in the Management Console.
End-users utilizing the proxy may experience extremely slow internet access or no response (browser keeps spinning, the page remains blank) when the Edge SWG (ProxySG) memory pressure exceeds 70%.
Memory pressure is the percentage of physical memory less free and reclaimable memory, of total memory. If there is no free or reclaimable memory in the system, the memory pressure will be 100%.
It is tracked on the Edge SWG (ProxySG) Management Console, in Statistics > Device, in the Summary section.
The statistic that tracks memory pressure is called TM002.00.1.
The event logs start reporting high memory pressure when it exceeds 70%.
The Edge SWG (ProxySG) goes into "regulation" when memory pressure exceeds 80%. Regulation means that the Edge SWG (ProxySG) will no longer accept new connections until it can finish processing current requests and free system resources. By stopping new traffic coming to the Edge SWG (ProxySG), it has time to deal with requests currently in memory and memory use will be reduced. When the memory pressure reaches 75% or less, the Edge SWG (ProxySG) begins accepting new connections again.
When an Edge SWG (ProxySG) goes into regulation, all end-users utilizing that proxy may experience extremely slow internet access, or may not receive a response at all, until the regulation is cleared.
If an Edge SWG (ProxySG) goes into regulation frequently, or experiences high memory pressure (above 70%) , or the memory pressure remains above 70% and never lowers, the unit may be undersized or experiencing a bug.
Please open a case with support for investigation with the following data:
This article explains what the data files are and how to upload data to support: Uploading files from Edge SWG (Proxy SG) or ASG directly to your Technical Support case via Management Console GUI
In a difficult-to-diagnose issue, you may be asked to take a full memory core file from the system or debug logs while the issue is happening.
