VPN not established on iOS using Mobile Device Manager

After installing the Symantec's MDM, the VPN tunnel never establishes. The iOS device remains in an unprotected state.


During the install of the MDM, there are two device profiles that are installed. Symantec's Mobile Device Manager and Mobile Defense are the two profiles that are installed and needed for the VPN to work. In some cases when you're unable to establish the VPN it is possible that the Mobile Defense profile did not install. You can confirm installation on your iOS device by going to Settings > General > Profiles.  If Mobile Defense is not showing as a profile you can remove the Blue Coat MDM profile and repeat the installation process to correct the problem.
