'License installation failed' error when installing the Director License

Issue/Introduction

Invalid License error is seen when trying to install the Director license.

Resolution

In the CLI you will see the following error:

 
% License installation failed:  The license file could not be parsed. 
Use the original license file generated by the Symantec Licensing Portal, and try again.  Or generate a new license file at the Symantec Licensing Portal. 
If you need assistance, contact Symantec Support.

In the DMC you might see the following:
 
Error occurred at local time: <date and time> Error Details: License installation failed: The license file failed checksum validation and may have been tampered with. Use the original license file generated by the Symantec Licensing Portal, and try again. Or generate a new license file at the Symantec Licensing Portal. If you need assistance, contact Symantec Support. 
 
If you enable debug logging and view the log you will see the following errors:

To fix this issue, please update the date and time on the Director. This can be done using the ntpdate command.  It is also recommended to use ntp to keep the time and date updated on the Director.
