Issue/Introduction

In addition to the basic system requirements spelled out in the release notes and Getting Started Guide with IC, there are several additional issues that we have determined can cause a failure to install. This article spells out those conditions.

Resolution

To ensure a successful installation, ensure the following conditions are met:

Pre-Installation Requirements:

Supported Platforms:

  • Windows 2003 (32 and 64 bit)
  • Windows 2008 (32 and 64 bit)
  • VMWare VMs 4.0 or later

CPU:
Minimum of 4 Cores

Memory:
4 gig of RAM

Disable the following Services:
  • Anti-Virus programs – all AV program services “should be” disabled prior to installation.
  • Windows Update – this service should be disabled prior to installation to avoid any performance or software corruption issues.
  • Backup Agents – Backup Agent services should be disabled to avoid corrupted or failed installs. When Backup Agents are running, this service is linked to multiple system (dll) files that may not allow our program to install correctly. When the service is running, these files are usually “locked down” by the Agents, not allowing other programs to either update or write to those necessary files for a successful install.

Regional and Language Options:

Note: IntelligenceCenter does not support “localized” Windows versions
Prior to installing IntelligenceCenter you’ll need to make sure that the system settings are set to (English-US) only. The Regional Settings should also be set to English only. After your install is complete, you can modify your “keyboard” settings under keyboard options under the Text services and input language tab of Regional and Language Options or via the Language Toolbar.
If the Regional setting is modified to anything other than (English-US) you’ll experience report issues, or even authentication issues.

Folder Permissions:

C:\Drive – Postgres will need (read/execute) permissions
Make sure one of the following two groups has these permissions on the folder and subfolders in question:
  • Users
  • Authenticated Users (preferred – more secure)
These groups are local built-in User groups, not any kind of domain groups.

Local Policy Permissions:

.
Make sure the local PostgreSQL service account has the following rights via either the Users or Authenticated Users group:
  • Log on as a service
  • Log on Locally
If the service account does NOT have these permissions you need to grant these rights by logging in as a local administrator.

If the Local PostgreSQL service account does NOT have these permissions at the time of installation, the installation will fail.
It is highly recommended at the time of installation, to login “locally” as the “local administrator” account. Using this account has a higher level of permission, not usually granted to most Local/Domain account.
