Resolution

To install the Reporter follow these steps:

  • Download the relevant file from the support.symantec.com site, and save it to a Windows Drive.
    • The choices available, on this site, is to download a 64 bit, or 32 bit version for Windows.
  • Double click on the executable downloaded, and follow the instructions.
  • It will be required to be able to answer these questions.
    • Which drive, and location, to install the software too.
    • What is the admin, and passwords to use.

NOTE1: Once installed, the Reporter service will automatically start, and an Icon will be placed on your Desktop that will load in the default browser with the right URL.

NOTE2: The Windows registry is also modified at this location: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blue Coat Systems, Inc.\Blue Coat Reporter 9]
@=""
"InstallDirectory"="C:\\Program Files\\Blue Coat Reporter 9\\"
"Version"="9.x.x.x"

To upgrade an existing Reporter installation, follow these steps:

  • Download the relevant file from the support.symantec.com site, and save it to a Windows Drive.
    • The choices available, on this site, is to download a 64 bit, or 32 bit version for Windows.
  • Log into Reporter and Stop all log sources and unload the databases (this correctly checkpoints your database to prevent issues during upgrade, as upgrades many times contain database architecture changes).
  • Stop Reporter Service from within the GUI.
  • Double click on the executable you downloaded, and follow the instructions.
  • The installation will use the registry information to location the installation, and get ready to upgrade the version.
  • The upgrade will then prompt to confirm the upgrade of the installed version.
  • Acknowledging this, and pressing continue will stop the Reporter server (if the service was not stopped, noted above), upgrade it, and then restart the service.

Backing up the configuration prior to an installation, and/or upgrade:

To backup the Reporter server, follow these steps.

  • Stop the reporter service.
    • Rick click on "MY Computer" icon, and choose "Manage".
    • Click on Services and Applications, and then click on Services.
    • Right click on the  "Blue Coat Reporter 9" service, click stop.
  • Use the desired backup utility, and make a backup of the Bluecoat Reporter 9 root folder, and the folders underneath it.
  • Restart the Reporter service.
