Issue/Introduction

What caching technique is being used to cache a certain URL by their CacheFlow appliance?

Resolution

The CacheReview portal provides an ability to determine what type of caching is used for a website or URL, and to submit any caching problems encountered to engineering for review.  Submitting problems is available regardless which caching technique is in use for a site, and should be used when you find that content you typically expect to be cacheable in not, such as video sites or file sharing content.

To determine what type of caching is used for a website or URL:

  1. On the CacheFlow appliance, switch to the Tools tab and click CacheReview.
  2. On the CacheReview page, enter the URL you would like information on and click Review Caching.

The results for the URL are displayed, and shows what caching technique is currently in use for this site.  Currently only two are possible caching techniques:   General Caching and CachePulse Enabled.

For a description of the caching type, click Technique Description.  As you can see in the screenshot, the 'General Caching' technique is used for 'example.com'.

To report an issue with the caching type, or you find that content you typically expect to be cacheable in not, send the information to Blue Coat for review.

  1. Fill out the Problem Description field on this page with as much detail as possible about the problem you are seeing.
  2. If you would like to be emailed on the results of the review, enter a valid BTO username in the BTO Account Username field.
  3. Click Submit for Review to send the review request to Blue Coat.
