Is there a limit to the number of entries you can add to a host list?
There is no hard limit; the maximum varies according to how much memory is available. At the CLI prompt, enter sys limits. Look at the section of the output titled "Dynamically allocated objects."
For example:
Statically allocated objects Current Remaining Total ------------------------------------------------------------------- Traffic classes 159 865 1024 Partitions 2 510 512 Dynamic Partitions 0 10000 10000 Policies 6 1018 1024 Matching rules 318 4802 5120 Classes with worst clients/servers 0 16 16 Classes with top talkers/listeners 2 10 12 TCP flows 3 199997 200000 Other IP flows 24 99976 100000 Legacy flows 8 9992 10000 Concurrent Hosts 327 99673 100000 MAC Cache Entries 281 14719 15000 Fragment Cache Entries 0 8000 8000 Command Contexts 7 23 30 Compression tunnels 0 269 269 Compression entries 0 4304 4304 Dynamically allocated objects Current Potential Total ------------------------------------------------------------------- Matching rule host references 3 10257 10260 Host list DS entries 3 24097 24100 DNS names 6 59067 59073 Customer Portal users 0 1024 1024
The line "Host list DS entries" indicates the total number of host lists and entries inside the host lists that can be created, given your current memory utilization.
Note:
If you are creating host lists using the Host List Editor in the browser interface, a single Host List Editor session is limited to the creation of 32 host lists. A message window warns when this limit is reached.
To initiate a new session to add more host lists, close the Host List Editor window and the Matching Rule window and then open them both again.
