Issue/Introduction

Restarting the Edge SWG (ProxySG) and ASG appliances. 

Resolution

The Edge SWG (ProxySG) appliance can be restarted using a software command or by a physical manipulation of the power switch on certain models. If a switch is not available, you can turn off the appliance be removing the power cable(s).

The software command to restart the appliance is available via SSH, Telnet (if enabled), Serial Console, or via Web Management Console. 

 
Restart the appliance through the CLI using SSH/Telnet (if enabled) or the Serial Console

There are three methods to restarting the appliance using the CLI:

  • Abrupt (restart abrupt): Forces the appliance to reboot without waiting for any pending processes to clear out. This generates a core if the context or full core is selected.
  • Regular (restart regular): SGOS gracefully clears out all pending transactions. This type of restart is not triggered immediately after the command is executed, as the Edge SWG (ProxySG) appliance attempts to clear out any pending processes.
  • Upgrade (restart upgrade): Triggers a restart and boot up of the default SGOS image. Refer to the Edge SWG (ProxySG) Admin Guides for more detail on how to set the default SGOS Image.

Note: You can force the Edge SWG (ProxySG) appliance to generate a core image by simultaneously pressing Ctrl + X + H while selecting the serial console terminal. This option is only available on the serial console.

Web Management Console (http/https)

To restart the appliance using the Management Console:

  1. Access the Management Console. Enter https://proxyip:8082 for https or http://proxyip:8081 for the http management console
  2. Click Maintenance > System and Disks > Tasks > Restart Now
  3. (Optional) To switch the SGOS version that boots up, select hardware and software restart and select the appropriate image
