Issue/Introduction

Were had a presentation last week, and one of the topics was DS8880 transparent cloud tiering. 

Are there plans to support or utilize DS8880 transparent cloud tiering in CA DISK ?

DS8880 DS8000

Resolution

DS8000 are supported by CA DISK since release R11. 

The DS8000 (DS8880) should work fine with CA DISK if it is formatted as a 3390 which seems to be the way they are initialized per IBM red book. 

 

The easiest way to look at new device support like the DS8880 Cloud Storage is: 

if a simple JCL utility like IEBGENER or IDCAMS can use the device, then we can as well. 

 

After reading the Redbook, we don’t believe other utilities can use the cloud storage as a device. Keywords are needed for DFSMSdss and DFSMShsm in order to use it.

So not sure CA DISK can use it as expected for now. This should be tested first.
